Course Details:

This course takes a look at the preparation of the surgical environment and preparation of the patient for treatment.

Isopharm recommends that you complete the full series of training courses in this subject to ensure you have the required information to support you in this area. 

Once you have completed this course please move onto Conscious Sedation in Dentistry for the Dental team (Course 4): Safe Sedation Practice and the Medically Compromised Patient

You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.

If you achieve 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a printable certificate to place in your CPD folder. 

If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and take the assessment again when you feel confident.

Aims:

This course aims to provide learners with an overview of how to prepare the environment and patient for treatment under conscious sedation. 

Objectives:

 Learners will be able to: 

  • Explain how to prepare patients for treatment under Conscious Sedation.
  • Recognise how to manage risks to the environment when providing Inhalation Sedation.
  • Describe the different types and safety features of an Inhalation Sedation machine.
  • Describe how to check an MDM Inhalation Sedation machine before treatment.
  • Recognise how to implement good infection control measures when providing dental care under conscious sedation.
  • Correctly identify 2 types of monitoring equipment used for treatment under conscious sedation and the checks necessary before treatment.
  • Discuss the role of the second appropriate person when providing treatment under intravenous sedation.

Learning Outcomes:

The learner understands:
