Course Details:

This course outlines successful planning and preparation for an autistic patient to make their experience as relaxed and productive as possible.

You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.

If you achieve 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a printable certificate to place in your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident.

Aims:

This course aims to help learners understand some of the obstacles autistic patients experience including their parents or carers when visiting a dental practice and how to minimise these as far as possible to make the visit less fearful or stressful.

Objectives:

Learners will be able to:

  • Recognise some of the characteristics of autism
  • Implement measures to establish and maintain good oral health
  • Successfully prepare the environment

The learner understands:

  • The different hyper/hypo sensitivities of autistic patients
  • The different approaches to take in practice
  • The different approach for new patients
