Course Details:

This course explores the types of waterborne microbes within a dental surgery environment.

You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.

If you achieve 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a printable certificate to place in your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident.

Aims:

This course aims to explain the types of waterborne microbes which may be present in the dental surgery environment and the niches that they may thrive in. 

Objectives:

Learners will be able to: 

  • Define what assets may create a risk of waterborne contamination
  • Put simple measures in place to mitigate the risk of pathogen growth     
  • Recognise which patient and/or staff members may be at increased risk of infection
  • Minimize the risk of exposure to vulnerable users

Learning Outcomes:

The learner understands:

  • What waterborne pathogens are relevant in the dental practice setting
  • The importance of biofilm prevention
  • Who may be at risk of infection
  • Where waterborne pathogens may be found in dental facilities
