Course Details:

This course takes an in-depth look at the different materials used in implant dentistry.

You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment. If you achieve 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a printable certificate to place in your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident.

Aims:

This course aims to discuss the various materials implants can be made from and understand the difference in abutments and the fundamental difference between tissue level and bone level implants.

Objectives:

  • Describe the characteristics of implants and explain how implant surfaces affect osseointegration          
  • Select appropriate implant surfaces depending on the patient factors            
  • Decide when to use custom abutments over stock abutments

  • The advantage of screw-retained over cement-retained implant crowns
  • Appropriate abutment design
  • How the surface property of an implant affects osseointegration
