Course Details

This course provides the dental team who do not take, but may or may not have a role in the production of an X-ray image with information relating to diagnostic radiology. It provides the following elements in compliance with Schedule 3 of IR(ME)R 2017.

General

  • Principles of radiological techniques.
  • Production of X-rays.
  • Equipment selection and use.

Fundamentals of image acquisition

  • Image formats.
  • Acquisition.
  • Processing.
  • Display and storage.

Completion of all five courses suitable for your job role complies with IR(ME)R and IRR requirements. 

We recommend that you complete the full series of training courses in this subject to ensure you have the required information to support you in this area. 

  • You will be presented with a coursebook followed by an assessment with options for feedback and reflection.
  • Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a certificate to download.
  • If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.

Aims

The aim of this course is to provide the dental team who do not take, but may or may not have a role in the production of an X-ray image, with information relating to the process of X-ray image production using analogue systems and the process of X-ray image production by digital systems.

Meeting requirements in the IR(ME)R 2017 - Regulation 17, IRR 2017 - Regulation 15, and the 2001 Guidance Notes for Dental Practitioners.

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Explain the process of X-ray production.
  • Explain the process of X-ray image production.
  • Explain how to produce an analogue image using intra-oral and extra-oral radiographic film techniques and the processing procedure.
  • Explain the mechanism of producing a digital image via direct and indirect methods.
  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of digital imaging and aspects of image manipulation.

 After completing the course the learner will gain an understanding of:
