Course Details:

This course takes an in-depth look at the harmful effects of tobacco use and provides useful information to assist patients who wish to quit smoking.

You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.

If you achieve 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a printable certificate to place in your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident.

Aims:

This course aims to highlight the harmful effects of tobacco use. 

Objectives:

Learners will be able to:

  • Identify the main ingredients found in cigarettes, including the toxic chemicals found in tobacco.
  • Identify the harmful effects and potential risks of tobacco use.
  • Help quantify persons exposure to tobacco and the risk of developing smoking-related diseases. 
  • Demonstrate the benefits to a persons health, wellbeing, and finances if they quit. 

Learning Outcomes:

The learner understands: 

  • The link between tobacco use and periodontal disease.
  • The harmful effects of tobacco on an unborn child. 
  • NICE quality standards.
  • The range of nicotine replacement therapies and prescription medications available.
